being without work. i.e.work without wages.it affects people in different ways.some try harder or use intelligence to get employment again.some try to set themselves up in business,employing others. small businesses, like the grocery shop,newsagents,garages,medical shops,bakeries, all these provide not only work ,but also allow them to dream of security. because work is basically financial security of some kind. employment or business also gives respectability.then there are the professions - law,accountancy,construction.my pet theory is self employment. i.e. business/profession of your own on a small scale. it is time to seriously encourage and support small home run businesses against the big companies.some have the courage (and also capital) to set up their own small businesses/professions. others do not . they eventually work for others,in some cases,big companies.how many professions have disappeared in the world leading to companies taking over. understand one thing. companies need people to purchase/use their products. they also are interested in profits mainly.people work for others and when their time is over,they are thrown out. but small businesses keep you and your family till the last.understand that it is ordinary people who decide their fate and not the top company heads or leaders of state..conversation about this is the first step.secondly, spread your trade to small businesses slowly and steadily. innovation is the need of the hour.but innovate with the long term view in mind. financial freedom and safety for people.joint families provide more benefits than drawbacks.think about it.in war, countries with more people in small businesses survive and are much stronger than others.recession and depression are also wars.it were unable to do for us. makes us realise the sacrifices made by our parents. family life means one has to tone down our individual instincts/desires for the greater good of our children. here in india, as in all over the world,parents live their life so as to give their children a bright future. at least most of them. pragmatism rules the roost. we provide the springboard for our children to fly high. this is the reason for humanity reaching today to the stars. working late hours,scrimping and saving. sublimating our deep desires. giving our children a positive attitude. warning them of life's dangers. using all our experience to guide them on their onward march. sometimes children do not realise how much their parents have done for them. ingratitude is sharper then a serpent's tooth. and yet ,generation after generation,parents have done their duties. untold stories. unsung heroes and heroines. single parents. husband and wife at odds with each other ,staying together for the sake of the children's future. facing old age alone.joy of children prospering, fill their hearts with happiness.keeping brave faces in front of the children. giving all, expecting nothing. one word. duty. each and every family has had such people among our ancestors. world's wonder no 1. they have sacrificed their youth for us. by just giving birth to us, they have given us a chance to experience this world as humans. in india we say matha,pitha,guru deivam. mother,father,teacher,god. this is the eternal order of mankind when giving importance and respect. let us all learn from our past good/bad and give our children a glorious future. because we have the power to mold our children's minds when they are young. let us empty our hearts of hatred/ prejudices and not pass on this to changing nappies, getting up every now and then to check up on the baby. then they start crawling all over the place. soon it is " did you see it? baby walked,oh lovely, " then feeding time. seems like the little tyke is always guzzling. as they grow a little bit older,the food ends up on rhe floor. " naughty baby,bless him" forgot washing  bibs. then time to go to school. poor little tots,braving new worlds.   nursery rhymes " baa,baa,black sheep,.." then games  . building blocks,playpens. the first football. shoes miraculously gone west in just 3 months.clothes picking up every stain for miles around. running to the doctors every now and then,sleepless lights again. they grow older. house full of odd noises. friends and them playing,running around - screaming aeroplane dives,clattering tanks, doll houses,little private tea parties for the dolls, studying hard when watched. scooting away when left alone. bringing stray dogs home,usually in filthy condition. later. hairstyles,dresses,with it attitude,new fads,earrings everywhere. raiding dad's,mom's accessories - scent,aftershave. boyfriends,girlfriends.  pta meetings, local dances. football games. first bike. then serious studying. group studies. fridge empties very fast. midnight snacks. then exams. results come pouring in.till then house of anxieties. sometimes devil may care attitude. suspicious smells from bedroom. then their first jobs. serious. professionals " dad ,can i have your tie?" " mom,do i look nicer in this dress?" their first pay packet. celebrations galore. then regular boyfriend girlfriend. goin steady. then marriage. suddenly,house falls silent. children, fun and frolic, worries and anxieties. our future flagbearers. tomorrow's leaders.charming/sulky. all moods of the spectrum. heartaches. lovable. hate the sight of them. " can't a man have some peace and quiet in this house?" advice rendered, sometimes followed,sometimes not. naughty,seriosus. adults are yesterday's children. children- tomorrow's adults. the true of people. all types exist. some clash with each other. like in india/uk we drive on the left. in usa/europe we drive on the right. globalisation,standardisation yes. but still individual countries have their own laws. laws are meant for discipline in all things. to protect people. but laws also discriminate. somebody said " the law is an ass." how true. and yet we need laws. discipline . meant to control. and yet sometimes it has bad results. in india another word for hinduism ( word given by outsiders to describe those who live in indus valley and its environs - their religion if it can be called religion.) is sanatana dharma- neverending laws.meant for the upliftment of life - human or otherwise. laws can be rigid/flexible. laws can be idiotic/farseeing. some are/ were meant for a particular period,place,situation. interpretation varies as civilisation/life needs change.there are some archaic/old laws which have to be removed/eradicated. there are some laws about which no one knows. future of civilisation lies in good thinking legislation. but some eternal laws,here are some. harm no one. protect yourself. pay your taxes. save on taxes. be gentle. punish the wrongdoer. some times i feel so depressed. this one of those times. usually very quick to advise others. fond of giving pep talks to others. but when i get bogged down,boy oh boy ,does it hurt. since i started blogging and meeting a lot of nice people like you all,i was feeling great. the computer at home has slowed down. my brother says it got a virus from blogging. so i went out to a browsing centre. and logged in. my family's problems make me nuts. enough of that. just finished harry potter and the deathly hallows. my niece's book. more down to earth. made real interesting reading. felt better. but regret at no more to come of harry potter. i enjoyed the waiting. now back to normal life. am reading everyone's blogs. pardon me if i don't show up for a couple of weeks. for me depression comes when i have insurmountable problems or when i have got too much on my plate. life can be so terrible and tiring at times. stopped drinking ,so an easy way out is gone. meditation does give me a breather,but that is it. i am not into the higher levels as yet. memories of my many failures/defeats sometimes seem to overwhelm me. man does require victories. since 2000 i have been getting only to themselves.of course, standards have come down,benchmarks/parameters have come down too.beneficiaries rarely admit that they have moved up the ladder of progress and only seek further benefits.on the other hand there are those who avail themselves of networking/contacts.now everyone wants reservation.merit?doesn't matter.reason for lack of originality in india.whiners everyone.gutless people.soft.non achievers.copycats.that is what this nation has come to.only mediocrity prevails.a random few reach high only when they leave the country or get lucky.excuse givers to where are you,i can't see you. gorging themselves and falling asleep while still sucking milk. breath smells of coffee(pups) hiding in dark places.try wandering in the dark in a house full of dogs/puppies. lapping water thirstily.one ear cocked,one eye lazily opening, sniffing at insects/ants,sniffing your trousers for other dogs scent. warily welcoming other dogs to the house. marking
